Today we are featuring Aileen Pablo, part of the team behind Open Colleges, one of Australia's leading providers of online TAFE courses equivalent and TESOL courses. When not working, Aileen blogs about travel, lifestyle, and beauty tips.

Bodega Bay, on the coast of Northern California, is known as the place where Alfred Hitchcock shot his movie "The Birds". It is a shallow rocky inlet of the Pacific Ocean about an hour drive north of San Francisco and straddles Sonoma County to the north and Marin County on the south. The location of the bay is what makes it such an interesting place to visit. Bodega Bay has been known for being a vacation spot for families, a couple's retreat, or for an individual escape from it all. But no matter how you are traveling to Bodega Bay, here are 10 activities to enjoy during your stay:

1. Swimming Since bodega is a bay, there's a lot of places for swimming in the ocean, in Salmon Creek for example. It has 2 miles of wide sandy beach with calm waters. Or in any one of the other beaches; Campbell Cove, Blind Beach, Arched rock beach, Gleason beach and Carmet beach to name a few.

2. Fishing at the rivers or the ocean. Boats leave every day for a full day of deep sea fishing. There's also a trout farm with a pond stocked with rainbow trout. Other fish which can be caught in the area are salmon, halibut, rock cod, ling cod and crabs.

3. Water sports Kayaking, diving, surfing and sailing in the calm waters of the bay.

4. Horseback riding A few privately owned farms organize horseback riding excursions on the beach or on trails displaying nature in its unspoiled beauty.

5. Art and galleries Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery, for example, focuses on the 19th and 20th realist and impressionist paintings. The Ren Brown Collection which is one of the finest galleries on the coast displays contemporary Japanese art, antiques and furniture. Local art shops in the beautiful costal village exhibit original art from local established artists and emerging talent. Hand crafted jewelry and hand painted scarves can be found in the Local Color Gallery.

6. Sport activities There is plenty to do in Bodega Bay if you like outdoors sport activities. Golf at Bodega harbor course or in one of the 15 golf courses available within 40 miles from Bodega Bay. Trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding around the Russian River and Goat Rock where the river spills into the ocean. That is where you can watch a colony of harbor seals. Bodega Head trail is another wonderful place for a stroll along the cliffs and watch the whales passing by during whale season. Pomo Canyon trail for day hikes is another location for outdoors sport activity.

7. Festivals There are a few festivals in the area which celebrate local life. The Fisherman's festival is held in late April and offers live music, good food, and wine tasting featuring more than 25 Sonoma County wines. This year the festival celebrates its 39th year and the 200th anniversary of Russia coming to Bodega Bay to build Ft. Ross. It is also known as the official start of salmon fishing.

Sonoma film festival – also in April, celebrates international films and welcomes independent films and filmmakers.

8. Giant Red trees in Armstrong woods. Hiking and nature trails among trees that are over 2,000 years old. Bicycling, horseback riding and picnic areas.

9. Bodega dunes A 5 mile riding and hiking trails loop through the dunes and has camping spots which are isolated, if you are looking for privacy and to be one with nature, or well-kept and serviced areas for group. The dunes are spread on more than 900 acres of huge sand dunes some of them as high as 150 feet.

10. Wine tasting and visiting the world famous wineries in Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley and in Alexander Valley where you can get exclusive wines paired with food and entertainment.
